PHOTOGRAPHY: Mikado

The 2-8-2 “Mikado” was the workhorse of American railroads in the first half of the 20th century; about 9,500 were built (plus another 4,500 for export), more than any other U.S. type, and the class comprised about a fifth of total U.S. railroad steam power.
