He may have worked at a desk that looks like the one below.
Jareh Dalke is only 30 years old. If convicted of espionage, he could spend the rest of his life in prison. Maybe a concrete cell at Florence ADX (see floorplan here), where the government houses other traitors.
CNN says he “worked at the NSA for less than a month as an information system security designer,” before quitting “citing a situation with his family.” While there, he allegedly “used an encrypted email to send excerpts of three classified documents to someone he believed to be a representative of a foreign government” who in fact was an undercover FBI agent.
The agent sent him $16,000 in cryptocurrency, and Dalke asked for $85,000 more for all the NSA information in his possession. He was arrested at the prearranged meeting site. (Read story here.)
He sold his life. His asking price was $101,000. If he spends 55 years at ADX before kicking the bucket, that works out to about $1,836 a year, or $35 a week. You can make better money fishing aluminum cans out of public trash receptacles. But hey, it comes with free health care, room and board, and you don’t have to worry about retirement. Still, it’s not worth it.
