It isn’t just big political races that matter anymore.
Extremists are trying to take over everything from election offices to library and school boards. If they win, the consequences will be unpleasant. It’s essential now to know what you’re voting for in every race for every office.
A case in point: Jeffrey Perrine (profile here, photo below) is running for a school board seat in the Sacramento area. He’s a Proud Boy, white supremacist, homophobe, and racist. He doesn’t have kids in public school (according to his candidate statement here, they’re home-schooled), but he does have an agenda: No “Marxism” or “critical race theory” in schools, no support for LGBQT kids or help for students who don’t speak English (see story here).
He was expelled from the local Republican Party, and they’re not supporting him. The GOP county chair says, “We had a history with him that has not been a positive one.” Then she added, “He has a history of interacting with school boards in an aggressive way that has not been productive.”
Like I said, do your research, don’t just mark boxes on a ballot because of a letter (D, R, or I) after their name. Now, you have to vet every candidate, no matter what they call themselves. The voters pamphlet is a good place to start; look to see who’s endorsing them. Do online research if necessary.
Don’t let people like this get into public office by falling through the cracks.
