Trump gutted the IRS, facilitating tax cheating and contributing to soaring deficits (Republicans don’t spend less than Democrats; they just spend differently). Democrats want to revive tax enforcement.
Appearing on a TV political show on Sunday, August 7, 2022 (read story here), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said if more IRS agents are hired to collect the taxes that are owed, they’ll “come after waitresses and Uber drivers.” **** Four silly stars for that one; Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-NY) rightly called it “preposterous.”
Then Blumenthal said oil companies “are making three to four times they did last year,” called that “excess windfall profits,” and suggested they should be lowering gasoline prices instead of paying profits to shareholders. **** Four silly stars for that demagoguery; I detailed what’s wrong with it here.
It would be nice if we had intelligent political conversations in this country. Might as well whistle into the wind.
