Lightning rod

Four people near a bronze statue of Andrew Jackson (pictured below) in Lafayette Square, across the street from the White House, were hit by lightning and sustained life-threatening injuries during thunderstorms in Washington D.C. on Thursday, August 4, 2022 (story here).

There may be a metaphor in there somewhere, but I’m not sure what it is.

Update: Sadly, three of the four victims have died (story here).
