You may recall after Fox News called Arizona for Biden an angry mob of Trumpers threatened to storm the Maricopa County elections office (story here). Weeks later, they called GOP Gov. Ducey a “traitor” for certifying the election (story here).
Even after Biden took office, disgruntled Arizona Republicans weren’t finished yet. Partly at taxpayer expense, they commissioned an “audit” of Maricopa County ballots that had no official status and couldn’t change the result in an attempt to “prove” the election was “stolen” in their state.
The “audit,” run by an inexperienced Trumper who had promoted false election conspiracy theories and derided by election professionals as incompetent and biased, came up with 360 more votes for Biden than the official tally.
It also turned up 282 “dead” voters, prompting an investigation by GOP attorney general Mark Brnovich, whose office found that 281 of them are alive. The 1 actual “dead vote” wasn’t worth prosecuting, he said, because it wasn’t counted (see story here). (Contrast this with Texas, which sentenced a black woman to 5 years in prison for a provisional ballot that wasn’t counted.)
Back in January 2022, the Pima County prosecutor announced “none of the 151 cases they reviewed merited criminal charges” (see story here).
None of this will satisfy the Trump supporters who still believe Trump’s “stolen election” lies, despite all the evidence. They’re entitled to believe what they like, but believing something doesn’t make it true, and the rest of us are entitled to have elections decided by objective facts, not their personal beliefs.
