A criminal gang of planet-savers is roaming New York City, looking for high-end SUVs, and flattening their tires.
These acts of eco-vigilantism have negligible, unmeasurable, effect on auto emissions; so it must be for revenge against car owners. It’s also highly counterproductive, because actions like these give the legitimate environmental movement a bad rap it doesn’t deserve, simply through guilt-by-association.
They don’t slash the tires, or otherwise damage them. What they do is unscrew the valve cap, insert a lentil bean, then screw the cap back on. This slowly lets the air of the tire overnight. (Read story here.)
In New York City, this probably means a very expensive tow. And what if the car owner’s wife is going into labor, and he needs to rush her to the hospital, only to find he can’t because his tires are flat? How about the driver who needs an SUV to accommodate his aging mother’s wheelchair? Or a family with six kids? These people aren’t thinking.
Here’s something else they haven’t thought of: If they get caught, somebody will flatten them. And if they do it to a Mafia car …
