CNN reports “47 Hertz customers have filed a lawsuit against the rental company that describes horror stories.”
These stories included being arrested at gunpoint, spending days in jail, and losing their jobs. All because they were “falsely reported as having stolen its rental cars.”
How did this happen? Apparently because of “systematic flaws in Hertz’s reporting of thefts, including not recording rental extensions.”
But the mistakes didn’t stop there. According to the lawsuit, they also included “falsely claiming customers haven’t paid” and “failing to track its own vehicle inventory.” The company’s also accused of “failing to correct false reports to police.”
The CNN story says Hertz’s CEO admitted “several hundred people” were “impacted” by these mistakes. Its response? It tried to shovel these claims into bankruptcy court. The bankruptcy judge isn’t having it. Hertz will have to defend itself in regular court.
Now, I’m not gonna tell you don’t rent a car from Hertz, just merely suggest it’s also a good idea to shop around for quality customer service.
