“House Republicans are plotting revenge on the select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection,” CNN says, “as the GOP weighs a broader effort to re-litigate some of Donald Trump’s biggest election grievances if it recaptures the House majority.” See story here.
Does this sound like a party that’s ready to govern our country? Or, more directly to the point, will voting for them get you lower gas and food prices? I’m sure not seeing it. I see toddlers throwing a tantrum.
So what exactly are they up to? Well, for starters, they want “to investigate the select committee itself.” And they’re talking about “subpoenaing members of the select committee, particularly Rep. Liz Cheney … and … Adam Kinzinger … if both Republicans are private citizens next year.”
Other ideas include going after Pelosi for Jan. 6 security failures at the Capitol and reviving Trump’s baseless election fraud lies.
Meanwhile, the latest polling shows Cheney trails her leading GOP primary challenger by 22 points (see story here). That person, Harriet Hageman, calls Trump “the greatest president of my lifetime” and the select committee’s incontrovertible findings “lies” (details here).
This isn’t a party that responsible citizens can vote for, even if you disagree with the Democrats or feel they’re dropping the ball on issues important to you. The Republicans are too dysfunctional and irresponsible right now to be entrusted with the job of governing our great county.
I want to emphasize it isn’t just, or even primarily, their candidates. Politicians will follow their constituents to get elected. The real problem is Republican voters.
