Dr. Lisa Gwynn (photo, left), a pediatrician and med school prof, is president of the Florida chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (profile here).
She also was a director of Florida Healthy Kids Corporation, a state health insurance provider, until she was fired from that board on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, by Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s chief financial officer, for her vaccine advocacy. (Read story here.)
Florida’s state government is anti-vax, and Florida is the only state that has refused to order Covid-19 vaccine doses for children under age 5, forcing doctors and parents to do workarounds.
Patronis (profile here) is a Republican politician whose medical qualifications consist of a 2-year degree in restaurant management. He was appointed to his state job by Gov. Ron DeSantis, a vehement anti-vaxxer.
This is what happens when partisan ideologues don’t have enough sense to let doctors run health care and decide what’s best for kids’ health.
DeSantis wants to be president, so he can do this to the entire country, and all of America’s children’s doctors.
