“Kentucky’s 2022 teacher of the year, Willie Carver Jr., is leaving his K-12 post for a university job, citing anti-gay discrimination,” The Hill reported on Thursday, June 23, 2022 (read story here).
He isn’t leaving Kentucky, not yet anyway, but after 17 years of teaching K-12 students, he’s moving to higher education because he doesn’t want to be part of a system “that causes harm.”
Carver (photo, left), says he’s “always faced discrimination” and “LGBTQ teachers bear the weight of a lot of hatred.”
