Genghis Khan and the D.C. trucker protest

“The trucker protest in the Washington, DC-area has finally come to an ignominious end after the manager of the Hagerstown Speedway, the group’s staging ground 90 miles outside of the nation’s capital, ousted the convoy,” Mother Jones reported on Thursday, June 2, 2022 (story here). The speedway is private property, and the manager, Mother Jones says, got tired of the truckers’ infighting.

Look, it’s hard to keep the clans together. Genghis Khan and Alexander the Great both put some of their followers to the sword to keep the rest of them in line and maintain some semblance of organization. For a cool instructional film on Genghis’ management methods, go here.

But the speedway manager simply decided, “I’m not a babysitter. I didn’t sign up for that. So when they got to acting like a bunch of kids it was time for them to go home.” She only ordered them to leave. Not enough swords, I guess.

“The convoy, which tortured DC-area drivers trying to take their kids to soccer practice and what not by driving in circles around the Beltway for three weeks this spring,” see photo below, was more a nuisance than a Mongol invasion.

It raised money “through a nonprofit foundation started by a convicted fraudster for its kitchen-sink protest against vaccine mandates, Black Lives Matter, government authority, and other conspiracy-theory based grievances.” It has been “slowly disintegrating,” and at the end, was “unfocused,” out of money, and fights were breaking out. They needed a Genghis Khan and didn’t have one. Maybe they should’ve watched the movie.
