TSA says more passengers are trying to sneak loaded guns through airport security, and this holds up the line for at least 20 minutes every time it happens (see story here).
At one North Carolina airport, passenger screening has yielded 106 guns this year, most of them loaded (see that story here).
What are these people thinking? My guess is they have a very casual attitude about guns; North Carolina has a lot of Republicans.
For now, this only gets you arrested and a $10,000 fine, which evidently isn’t enough deterrence. (I don’t know if there’s a rule that these people can’t board, but I’d guess they ended up missing their flights.)
I’ll bet it would come to a quick end if the other passengers found out why their flight was delayed and the screening line wasn’t moving, but then you’d need a lot more airport cops to protect the offenders.
