A lawyer representing a black newspaper carrier victimized by Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer (photo, left) has filed an anti-harassment order against him, a Seattle TV station reported on Monday, May 23, 2022 (see story here).
The order alleges Troyer “followed Sedrick Altheimer on several occasions while he was driving his paper route, flashing his lights at him,” KING 5 News said. Their story doesn’t indicate when the incidents occurred.
Troyer faces trial on July 11, 2022, on misdemeanor charges, and Altheimer is pursuing a civil rights lawsuit.
On January 27, 2021, only two months after being sworn in as a newly-elected sheriff, Troyer saw Altheimer delivering newspapers and called down a law enforcement army on him, falsely claiming Altheimer threatened him (see that story here).
The incident received widespread publicity because it’s tinged with racial profiling, police misconduct, and discriminatory police treatment of black people.
The first video below is bodycam footage of that original encounter. The second video is a recent interview with Altheimer.
