A crackpot doctor who built a following by opposing Covid-19 shutdowns, masks, and vaccines won the endorsement — and potentially the nomination — of Minnesota’s GOP for governor. However, he still could face a primary challenge. (See story here.)
Minnesota’s Democratic party leader said, “Minnesota Republicans have chosen the most extreme and dangerous candidate to lead their party in the fall. In just the last two weeks, Scott Jensen has promised to ban abortion for rape victims and to throw one of his political opponents in jail.”
On April 23, Jensen told supporters Minnesota’s secretary of state Steve Simon, a Democrat, “should go to prison for his running of the state’s election system, without providing any evidence that he’s done anything illegal.” CBS News noted that “courts have ruled repeatedly that the temporary steps that Simon took … to make it easier and safer to vote during the COVID-19 pandemic were legal” (see story here).
Republicans across the country have insisted that voters should have been forced to risk their lives in 2020 by voting in-person at polling places. (Is this a party you want to vote for?)
Jensen (photo above), currently a state senator, is unlikely to be elected governor. Minnesota is considered a blue state, and he trails in polls against incumbent Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat.
