Texas is run by hateful people, and isn’t merely inhospitable, but unsafe for LGBQT people. Republican state elected officials are creating what they call “a climate of terror.” Their vicious campaign against LGBQT people is leaving trans kids, their parents, and LGBTQ exhausted. Now, they’re ready to leave.
“Last month, NBC News spoke to a dozen parents of transgender children, as well as to trans teens …. At the time, only one of those families had planned to move. Now, three …, have said they will leave the state” because they’ve “watched Texas officials become increasingly bold in targeting transgender people ….”
Mothers of trans teens say they can’t ask them “to spend the last years of their childhood in a state that wants to criminalize their existence.” Read story here.
Texas is a dangerous place for more than LGBQT people. Last week, a Latina woman who got an abortion — still a constitutional right in this country, at least for now — was arrested and charged with murder. She spent two nights in jail before the D.A. announced she committed no crime and refused to prosecute her. Read that story here.
Republicans say they’re for freedom. They’re lying. People who believe in freedom don’t persecute others because of their biology, or try to control their bodies.
LGBQT people and women need to leave Texas. They’re not safe there.

A spokeswoman for the GOP governor said, “”We are prepared to defend our values.” I think their “values” are indefensible. This law is anti-trans hate, and the families’ lawyers say it violates the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause.
