An investigation by Arizona AG Mark Brnovich, a Republican, has “found no evidence of widespread voter fraud or irregularities associated with the 2020 presidential election in Maricopa County,” NBC News reported on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 (read story here).
Biden won the state by 10,457 votes, a 0.3% margin (see results here). Because it was so close, Republicans have disputed the results, but every recount, audit, and investigation to date — including an unofficial, nonbinding audit commissioned by Republican legislators and conducted by a Trump supporter who promoted false election conspiracy theories — has confirmed that Biden won the state.
Republicans have focused on Maricopa County because it leans Democratic and has two-thirds of the state’s voters. The rural areas generally went heavily for Trump, as elsewhere in the country.
Brnovich was immediately attacked by a GOP state senator, Wendy Rogers, who demanded “arrests and prosecutions … handcuffs, jail cells and jump suits.” She didn’t say who she wants prosecuted, or whether guilt or innocence matters to her, but she supports Trump’s election lies, and doesn’t seem to care whether there’s evidence to support them (there isn’t). She would be scary on a jury in a criminal trial.
Rogers, a member of the violent far-right Oath Keepers militia group, is shown below in military uniform on a political website (here), a violation of military regulations. (She’s retired from the Air Force.) The website is soliciting signatures on a “petition” to decertify the 2020 election, which isn’t possible under the Constitution or U.S. laws.
