The U.S. had, at last count, about 31,000 street gangs with roughly 850,000 members.
Prof. Malcolm Klein (profile here), a leading researcher on the subject, says, “For the most part, gang members do very little – sleep, get up late, hang around, brag a lot, eat again, drink, hang out some more. It’s a boring life.”
In other words, they spend only a small portion of their time clubbing and hacking rivals to pieces, and getting the same done to them.
