Death penalty abolished, sentence carried out

Dayva Cross in court in 2001

Dayva Cross killed his wife and two stepdaughters in 1999; two years later, a jury sentenced him to death (see story here). But Washington’s supreme court overturned the death penalty in 2018 (details here).

Cross was executed anyway on Sunday, March 13, 2022, just not by the state (see story here).

And, ironically, the inmate who killed him can’t get the death penalty.
