The U.S. warned Americans to get out of Ukraine.
China didn’t warn its citizens to leave, so now about 6,000 Chinese are stuck there.
“Unlike nationals from many other countries, they did not receive instructions to leave the country before the invasion began, as Chinese officials pushed back on warnings from the US and its allies that a Russian attack was imminent,” CNN says (story here).
Well guess what, it was. Either Putin didn’t share that with Xi Jinping, or Xi cared more about not spilling the beans than what happens to Chinese in Ukraine. Not that there were any beans to spill; U.S. President Biden was telling anyone who would listen that Russia was about to attack. He even said when.
“A plan for charter flights … was put on hold … as fighting in the country intensified, with China’s top envoy in Kyiv saying late Saturday that citizens now needed to ‘wait until it’s safe to go,'” CNN reported. Huh.
Their ambassador posted on social media, “There are missiles in the air, explosions and guns on the ground, and the two armies are fighting each other …. How is it possible to ensure safety (to leave) in such circumstances?” Uh-huh.
You think Biden bungled the evacuation from Afghanistan? Who has the last laugh now? It gets worse. The Chinese government is supporting Russia’s actions, so Chinese in Ukraine are being met with hostility from Ukrainians. They have some explaining to do.
Here’s a suggestion. If you’re a Chinese student or other Chinese citizen in Ukraine right now, tell the Ukrainians you’re not going back to China and ask them to help you get to the Polish border. Once there, ask for asylum or transportation to Taiwan.
Why should you go back to China after your government abandoned you?
