Students across the country are being arrested after making threats against schools in reponse to a “TikTok challenge,” the tabloid Daily Mail reported on Saturday, December 18, 2021 (story here).
A New York newspaper said the TikTok “challenge” labeled Friday as “National Shoot Up Your School Day” and encouraged students to make threats.
The “challenge” is having a big impact, because school authorities and police are taking no chances. The Daily Mail said, “The disturbing social media challenge led many schools around the US to cancel classes on Friday, or bring in additional police officers as a precaution.” For example, in Arizona, “the Scottsdale Unified School District said the TikTok threats aren’t credible but that schools are taking extra precautionary measures anyway.”
Meanwhile, for a lot of kids, participating in the “challenge” has meant a knock on the door, seeing cops standing on the porch, and then being led away in handcuffs to a police cruiser (photo below). Michigan prosecutors have filed criminal charges against “dozens of youths”: In Macomb County, 30 people; in Oakland County, 17 people; in Wayne County, 38 juveniles; in Muskegon County, “19 students have been charged.”
Stupid kids. I’ll bet they’re catching hell from their parents.
