Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and his family aren’t letting a deadly school shooting in Michigan dampen their holiday spirit! Read story here. But that’s not all; Massie also tweeted, “Merry Christmas! ps. Santa, please bring ammo.” Story here. To use against who?
My thoughts: Apart from the implicitly threatening message this photo conveys, unless they’re toy replicas, at least three of the weapons in the photo are machineguns that require a federal license, which this family probably doesn’t have.

“This is the very same confrontational, anti-social impulse that was expressed by the Crumbleys when they gleefully purchased a ‘school gun’ for their emotionally disturbed 15-year-old, refused to disarm him, refused to seek counseling for their son, refused to remove him from school, and angrily stormed out of the school counseling office mere hours before their son committed mass murder.
“It’s the same confrontational, anti-social impulse expressed when Trump supporters shriek “KILL HIM WITH HIS OWN GUN” as they drag an injured, semi-conscious police officer down The Capital steps while beating him and stabbing him in the neck with a Taser.
“It’s Rep. Lauren Boebert’s violently racist stand-up routine and Minority Leader McCarthy’s weak indifference.
“It’s everything suburban women voters need to know about the GOP ahead of the mid terms.”
Unfortunately, there’s little if any exaggeration here. People like the Massies not only are the face of today’s Republican Party, but also its substance. The Crumbley family is a criminal matter; the Massie family is a political matter. The Crumbleys — all three of them — need to be, and will be, prosecuted. That’s a step in the right direction. Politicians like Massie need to be repudiated at the polls. Unfortunately, that’s not happening; the political extremism on the GOP side is getting worse, not better.
Nothing I write here will solve any of these problems. They must be solved by the cumulative effect of one prosecutor and one voter at a time. Otherwise, they’ll be left unsolved and we’ll be living in a different kind of society than what we’re used to, and not a better one.
Then: The holiday season was wishing peace, love and goodwill to everyone.
Now: The white Taliban gleefully posing with their machine guns.
Reward from Santa: Lumps of Kentucky coal in their Christmas stockings.
