Ex-D.A. who protected Arbery killers booked into jail

Jackie Johnson (photo, left), the former district attorney who stopped cops from arresting Ahmaud Arbery’s killers, was booked into jail and released Friday, the same day the men were convicted of Arbery’s murder.

One of the men convicted on Friday was employed in Johnson’s office at the time.

She was indicted last week on a felony misconduct charge and a misdemeanor hindering charge. She was released without being required to post bond after booking.

If convicted of a felony, she could lose her license to practice law.

The men went for several months without being arrested or charge, until the case was taken away from Johnson’s office. She left office after being defeated in the November 2020 election, and is being prosecuted by the state attorney general.
