Ex-Army general and pardoned felon Michael Flynn, who has advocated overthrowing our government with a military coup, wants to take away more than your voting rights. He’s coming for your religion, too.
Speaking at a far-right religious rally on Saturday, November 13, 2021, he thundered: “If we are going to have one nation under God — which we must — we have to have one religion.”
“One nation under God, and one religion under God,” is his vision of an America under fascist rule.
That wouldn’t be a problem if he was a crank nobody listens to. The problem is that a lot of Republicans do listen to him, and are eager to follow his lead. For example, Ohio’s state treasurer, Josh Mandel, who’s running for U.S. Senate, tweeted: “We stand with General Flynn.”
Are you kidding me? I mean, c’mon, this is 9th grade civics. Has Flynn never read the Bill of Rights? It sure doesn’t sound like he has. At a minimum, it’s profoundly disrespectful of other Americans’ rights.
If this represents the mainstream of the Republican Party today, and no other GOP is currently in sight, you can’t vote for Republicans. You can’t trust any Republican. It sure looks like they’re coming for your right to vote and your right to worship. Their flags and signs emblazoned with the word “Freedom” are a lie. What other freedoms will they take from you? Free speech? Your right to live? There seems to be no limit to their extremism.
