He’s crazy.
What should society do with him?
Lonnie Coffman, a Vietnam veteran from Falkville, Alabama, described by his family as a “hermit” (and Trump supporter), parked his truck near the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. When he returned to his vehicle, it was inside a police perimeter. The cops, seeing a gun on the seat, searched it and they found:
- A loaded 9 mm Hi-Point handgun
- A loaded Windham Weaponry rifle
- A loaded Hatfield Gun Company SAS shotgun
- Several large capacity ammunition feeding devices
- Hundreds of rounds of ammunition
- A crossbow with bolts
- Several machetes
- Camouflage smoke devices
- A stun gun
- 11 Molotov cocktails
Coffman also carried loaded guns on his person during the riot and entered the Capitol building armed. Charged with 17 felonies, he’s taking a plea deal. The man is nuts, but he’s also a danger to the community. Should he go to prison, or a veterans home? (Read story here)
