“Are you ready to rumble?”
As I recall that how the W.W.E. announcer introduced wrestlers to fans. Everyone knows professional wrestling is fake. People pay money to watch it, because it’s entertaining.
I wonder when Portland — long a scene of slugfests between freaks of the extreme right and the extreme left — will monetize these events. Legalize them, move them into a stadium (gets them off the streets), sell tickets to watch from safe seats. Everybody wins, except the losers.
It’s not a new idea. The Romans invented it.
Anyway, in Boston on Sunday, November 7, 2021, people who don’t like people who don’t like masks converged on people who don’t like masks and fisticuffs, pepper spray, and shoving and pushing ensued (photos below). Read story and see more photos here.
Police showed up in riot gear, as the event was advertised in advance. I get that they don’t want the combatants destroying public property, but does anyone really care if they destroy each other?
Like I said, move the event into a stadium, call the participants “gladiators,” and sell tickets.
The city will make a fortune.
