Should cops be fired for fake vaccine cards?

Do we even need to debate this?

Lancaster is a city of about 60,000 in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Amish country.

That city doesn’t require its employees to get vaccinated against Covid-19, but those who don’t have to wear masks in city buildings at all times.

Anti-vaxxers usually are anti-maskers, too, so it’s not all that surprising that anti-vaxxers would try to go around the mask rule. Two former Lancaster cops did so by submitting fake vaccine cards; notice I said “former.” They don’t work there anymore. See story here.

Those jobs paid about $80,000 a year, according to local sources. Maybe another police department will hire them. I wouldn’t. Maybe they’ll have to flip burgers for $7.25 per hour. I have no sympathy for them.

Let’s set aside the fact they endangered their fellow workers, which is a personnel issue (that was dealt with in this case), and address the dishonesty aspect of this. If you were a cop, would you want a dishonest cop for a partner?

Or let’s say I’m a judge, you’re a cop, and you’re a known liar. Your testimony won’t secure convictions in my court. What’s more, if you came into my courtroom without a mask and lied about being vaccinated, you’re going to jail for contempt.

According to the aptly-named website Crooks and Liars (here),

“Heather Schaeffer got a blank vaccination card from her cousin, who is in the military and involved in vaccination efforts, made a copy and sold it to Benjamin Lapp for $20, according to documents LNP | LancasterOnline obtained through a Right to Know request to the city. …

“According to Schaeffer and Lapp’s termination paperwork, Capt. Richard Mendez learned in September that the two ‘had been openly speaking about having fraudulent COVID-19 vaccination cards.’”

These morons were bragging to their fellow officers about faking the vaccination cards. What do you wanna bet somebody squealed on them?

This level of stupidity deserves mugshots. To protect the public, you understand. If you see either of these individuals in your neighborhood, RUN!
