A Maryland doctor-legislator has been punished by the state medical board “for performing surgery while appearing virtually for legislative meetings,” The Hill reported on Friday, October 29, 2021 (read story here).
Dr. Terri Hill (photo, left), a cosmetic surgeon who’s been a Democratic state delegate since 2014, was reprimanded and fined $15,000 for “unprofessional conduct in the practice of medicine.”
The complaint said she “attended committee meetings via video conference while simultaneously performing surgery.” She “appeared on the stream in a surgical gown, facemask, and surgical cap” and “was seen on video shifting lights, moving surgical equipment and moving blood-stained towels.”
She got a chewing out at work, too; her medical director told her “don’t invite the public into … the operating room.” It’s not clear from the story what the missing word between “into” and “the” is, but it might start with an “f”.
Now imagine if a legislator-pilot did this while landing a 757, or a zookeeper did it while feeding the tigers …
It just seems to me there are times when you shouldn’t multitask.
