A new book claims “Mitch McConnell and Sen. Tom Cotton schemed to prevent Republican senators joining … Trump’s effort to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election,” the U.K.-based tabloid Daily Mail reported on Monday, October 11, 2021 (read story here).
It’s not that Cotton didn’t want to throw out the election results, David Drucker’s book, “In Trump’s Shadow: The Battle for 2024 and the Future of the GOP,” says. “In early December,” he directed his Senate aides “to research the matter extensively and prepare an exhaustive memorandum.” They did, and their memo “made plain that the Constitution [does not have] a secret back door for Congress or the vice president to invalidate presidential election results.”
Drucker, a journalist who currently works for the rightwing newspaper Washington Examiner, claims McConnell then enlisted Cotton to help tamp down a brewing rebellion among some Republican senators against the election results.
All the recounts, dozens of lawsuits, and even the Arizona GOP’s sham “audit” have confirmed that Biden won a comfortable majority of presidential electors. It’s also clear that millions more Americans voted for Biden than for Trump.
On that basis, and given the absence of any evidence of fraud, Republican Party efforts to overturn the election are illegitimate and an assault on our democracy.
Depends on if the electorate is interested in real world rules or Hollywood rules. Apply Hollywood rules and maybe all these election claims by Republicans are not crazy. After all it should be the next election one should worry about unless you think there might be some serious flaw or that maybe a state election was stolen from Trump. Seems to distract everyone from the 2022 congressional and the 2024 election and well how are things looking for Joe. Is it the Once and Future President?
