Trump is trying to recruit a Kentucky Republican to mount a primary challenge against Mitch McConnell (photo, left), and “has been busy making calls” to feel out whether there’s support for replacing him as GOP Senate leader, the Daily Mail said on Monday, September 20, 2021, (read story here).
“I think he’s very bad for the Republican Party,” Trump reportedly said.
Doesn’t sound like this scheme is getting much traction among GOP senators, though. For example, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) compared “Trump’s chances of ousting McConnell … to … a donkey learning to fly,” the Daily Mail said.
Why is Trump, who seeks revenge against those who disagree with him, so upset with McConnell? Need you ask?
The Daily Mail explains, “McConnell backed Trump for most of his term but drew a line with the former president’s attempts to overturn the election. Speaking on the Senate floor on January 6 ahead of the election certification vote, McConnell said lawmakers had a duty to uphold the will of the people and dismissed the former president’s claims the race was rigged.”
Bam. That landed McConnell on Trump’s shitlist.
Is it too way out there, too unreasonable to suggest, that Trump would have McConnell shot if he could? After all, he isn’t known for self-restraint in exercising power, and has verbalized shooting peaceful protesters and executing innocent people.
Which is why he should never be president again, and McConnell should consider getting a bulletproof vest.
