Some employers actually value their work force and have few serious labor issues. Other employers are the reason we have unions, other than the fact some employers are so large (government, Boeing, Ford) they need the union so employment issues can be worked out in a reasonable fashion. They may not like giving workers rights, but share holders like knowing what the score is and it removes a lot of uncertainty. Circumstance can force a company to do things it would rather not to stay in business, and in a reasonable business executives and managers will share in the pain. Your comment doesn’t really address the issue. Yes, this is about greedy employers forcing people to work for low wages. (Read a classic essay about “cheap labor conservatives” here.) But these two characters take it further; they don’t just disrespect workers, they consider them subhuman.
