Alaska was already proud of Lydia Jacoby, 17, for making the Olympic team, which no Alaskan swimmer, male or female, had ever done. She wasn’t expected to win the women’s 100-meter breaststroke at the Tokyo Olympics, but she did, and now Alaska not only has an Olympic swimmer to boast about, but a gold medalist too.
