A grocery cashier was killed by an irate customer at a suburban Atlanta grocery store on Monday, June 14, 2021.
The man left the store after being told to wear a mask, returned with a gun, and shot the cashier in the head. He then shot an off-duty sheriff’s deputy working as a security guard, who returned fire and wounded the shooter. The security guard and shooter were both hospitalized, but are expected to recover. The sheriff said the deputy’s bulletproof vest saved his life. A second cashier suffered a minor bullet graze wound that was treated by medics at the scene.
Victor Lee Tucker (photo, above left), 30, has been charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault. The victims were Laquitta Willis, 41, and Deputy Danny Jordan, 54 (photos below).
The incident doesn’t appear to be racially motivated; all involved are black. Tucker is a sociopath with a violent history. He’s been arrested for DUI, domestic violence, child cruelty, and making terroristic threats; and previously was ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation and attend anger management classes, according to a local TV station.
Why does someone like this have a gun? We need more laws empowering courts to prohibit such high-risk individuals from having guns, and take them off the streets immediately through some sort of commitment process if they’re found in violation of no-weapons orders.
