Canadian police arrested a 20-year-old man after he mowed down a Muslim family with his pickup truck. A 9-year-old boy was the only survivor of the car attack. The driver, Nathaniel Veltman, is charged with 4 counts of murder and 1 count of attempted murder.
Police said Veltman deliberately drove his vehicle over a curb to attack the family, who were waiting at an intersection, and called it “a planned, premeditated act, motivated by hate,” adding the suspect was wearing body armor when found at a nearby mall.
Canada doesn’t have a death penalty, so the most Veltman can get is life in prison, if he’s convicted of murder.
