An Illinois man is suing a local police department for “desecrating” his daughter’s ashes during a traffic stop.
Dartavius Barnes was pulled over in April 2016, and handcuffed while cops searched his vehicle “without consent, valid warrant, or probable cause,” the legal complaint alleges. What they found was an urn of his daughter TaNaja’s ashes — which they opened and tested for drugs, spilling some of the ashes in the process.
Stupid cops. Read story here. But they’re not the only ones.
An NFL player complained in 2018 that TSA agents at L.A.’s airport spilled his mother’s ashes in his luggage (see that story here).
And in 2009, Seattle TSA agents apparently emptied an urn containing a woman’s ashes into a trash can (more details here).
Stupid TSA agents.
Memo for Law Enforcement: If it looks like this, it may be someone’s loved one. Better ask before you mess with it.
