A 23-year-old Minnesota protester who participated in torching a police station during the George Floyd protests was sentenced to 4 years in federal prison and a $12 million fine, the British news service BBC reported on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Read story here.
Dylan Robinson and three other rioters pleaded guilty in December 2020 to conspiracy to commit arson. The others are still awaiting sentencing. They now may have an idea of what is in store for them.
Prosecutors said “Robinson lit a Molotov cocktail which another person then threw at the Minneapolis Third Precinct headquarters” (photo, left), the BBC said.
Paying for the damage he helped cause will subject his future wages, bank accounts, and other income and assets to collection for 24 years — the term of his incarceration plus 20 years. That’s a real consequence for a night of rioting.
It also might foreshadow what awaits some of the Capitol rioters who invaded the seat of Congress, injured dozens of police officers, and damaged federal property when they tried to overthrow our government on January 6, 2021.
