A Department of Justice investigation, begun while Trump was president, of an acquaintance was broadened to Gaetz when information surfaced about his actions with a 17year-old girl.
The accusations against Gaetz are ironic given his support of QAnon, a baseless conspiracy theory that accuses Democrats of child sex trafficking. Gaetz was the only member of Congress to vote against a federal sex trafficking bill that now might put him behind bars. He told his constituents it created “more government.”
No charges have been filed against Gaetz, who contends the accusations are part of an extortion plot against his family.
