Don’t shop here, please

An Ohio coffee shop owner doesn’t want Democrats or gays in his shop.

Adam Newbold (photo, left), who owns C4 Coffee in Lisbon, Ohio, where the paper drinking straw was invented in 1888, says, “If you voted for Joe Biden, don’t buy our coffee, it’s not for you. If you believe there was nothing wrong with this election…don’t buy our coffee. It’s not for you.”

Newbold is an admitted Capitol rioter who says he’s “proud” of the violent assault on Congress on January 6, 2021.

No, he doesn’t have to allow you in his coffee shop. Businesses can choose who to serve, as long as they don’t violate discrimination laws, and Biden voters aren’t a protected class under discrimination laws, although he’s not permitted to shoot them on sight. You know how this works: No shirt, no shoes, no service. Voted for Biden? Get out!

My advice is do as he says. Leave. It’s his shop; also, he seems unstable.

Online dating profiles long have said “No Republicans” and “No Democrats.” This was happening before Trump came along. Blues and reds don’t hook up anymore. Too much arguing. (No more purple babies!) Then came a baker who refused to sell a wedding cake to a gay couple, and soon others did the same thing. Are we on a slippery slope? Will we become a country of blue and red businesses, where you need to show a party ID card to get served? (Where will purples go?)

If I were in Lisbon, Ohio, needing a hot cup of Joe, under ordinary circumstances I wouldn’t think twice about walking into Newbold’s coffee shop, even knowing he’s a Trump supporter. There’s a time and place for politics, and 7 a.m. isn’t the time and a business isn’t the place.

But if that’s the way he wants it, hey, who am I to argue with him?

He’s probably headed for prison anyway.

Is the coffee good? Really good? My regular place served me a cold coffee today.

You’ll have to ask his customers. I don’t know. I wouldn’t get past the bouncer.
