“The acting head of Myanmar’s civilian government addressed the public from exile Saturday, vowing to fight against the military’s rule,” The Hill reported on Saturday, March 13, 2021. “Mahn Win Khaing Than, who was appointed … by ousted lawmakers … vowed there would be a ‘revolution’ against the junta that took power by force during the Feb. 1 coup. Mass movements can topple autocratic regimes (e.g., Arab Spring and Ukraine). We can only hope the Burmese bravely risking their lives can oust the junta. They’re trying. If democracy is restored, the generals will get due process, because that’s how democracies do things — if they escape lynching. The troops and cops carrying out their orders better run, too.
