A small-town police chief in Arkansas is out of a job job after threatening Democrats on social media.
Lang Holland (photo, left), chief of police in Marshall, a town of about 1,400 people in north central Arkansas (photo below), resigned on Saturday, November 7, 2020, after meeting with the mayor, who said Holland wasn’t asked to resign and did so voluntarily.
Holland made these comments:
“When this is over and Trump is president for 4 more years, do not forget what these Marxist Democrat bastards have tried to do. When you see one in public get in their face do not give them peace. Throw water on them at restaurants. Push them off sidewalks. Never let them forget they are traitors and have no right to live in this Republic after what they have done.”
“Death to all Marxist Democrats. Take no prisoners leave no survivors!!”
Holland also posted under pictures of several Democratic politicians, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi,
“I pray all those in that picture hang on the gallows and are drawn and quartered!!!! Anything less is not acceptable.”
He also called Biden’s election victory a “coup” and repeated Trump’s baseless claims that the election was “stolen.” Holland also is an anti-masker who previously refused to enforce the Republican governor’s mask order, refused to wear one, and announced he wouldn’t require his officers to comply with the order.
Shortly after Biden was declared winner of the presidential race, Holland posted the incendiary remarks on Parler, a social media platform catering to conservatives. It appears he was disappointed by the election’s outcome and was venting to fellow Trump supporters, but his comments were flagged by an Arkansas watchdog organization that tracks hate groups.
He was considered a good cop, but found no support for this behavior among local Republicans or business leaders, and his remarks were condemned by the governor.
We’ve seen this time and again. Social media is not private, and therefore is no place to ventilate or make intemperate remarks. Holland isn’t the first person to lose a job or destroy a career this way.
