“A man in Florida was mauled after paying $150 for a ‘full-contact experience’ with a black leopard. Dwight Turner, 50, has undergone two surgeries since being attacked by the animal on August 31,” CNN reported on Saturday, October 31, 2020.
CNN reported that Turner “and the leopard’s owner, Michael Poggi, 54, arranged for him to ‘play with it, rub its belly and take pictures’ on Poggi’s property.”
Poggi unlocked the leopard’s cage, Turner entered, and the leopard growled and bit him; he “sustained injuries to the right side of his head and right ear. Mrs. Turner stated that she had to place part of Mr. Turner’s scalp back in place because it was hanging from his head and his right ear was torn in half.”
This could get interesting if Poggi neglected to have Turner sign a release of liability, because then law professors might get a case they could use to teach first-year tort students about the assumption of risk doctrine.
