I had a dream about Newton last night.
It seems to me that what Newton actually discovered is a pretty good definition of”God” if you strip away the idea that God is a person.
The fundamental laws of science are .. eternal and not limited time or space. If one looks at what Christians, Jews, and Muslims claim these properties would be properties of their God.
My dream is not original. Einstein described the wonder of scientific discovery as being a fomr of worship,
A 1000 years before Einstein, Judah Halevi said something similar about the Torah .. describing it a set of laws that Judaism had discovered. The truths of the Torah, according to Maimonides must be consistent with the more immediate truth of science. If one looks at Buddhism. Rousseau, Spinoza, Kant, Skinner and Jefferson .. one might even add in natural law!
He never discovered the philosophers stone along the sea shore.He was a devout Christian if unorthodox. His conception of the universe is based on natural and rationally understandable laws, totally independent of a deity.
And he predicted the end of times will not come before 2060.
