A white male professor at a New England university who harassed social justice advocates added insult to injury by pretending to be an immigrant “woman of color” who “grew up in poverty and slept on a dirt floor.”
Calling himself “the Science Femme,” he posted “racist, sexist and transphobic comments and images” on a Twitter account and bragged about “shutting down diversity, equity, and inclusion work” in his department. One of his rants ended up on the RedState conservative blog.
He did a lousy job of covering his tracks, and internet sleuths identified him as an assistant chemistry professor at the University of New Hampshire, which wouldn’t confirm his identity, but said he’s been put on leave. His department head decried his actions but expressed hope it won’t end his academic career. Both Daily Beast and Daily Mail publicly named him.
Daily Beast said this is the fourth time “in recent weeks” that a white academic has posed as a person of color, but the other three did it to advance their careers.

Update (2/12/21): The college announced on Friday, February 12, 2021, that it had concluded a 4-month investigation and the professor resigned, ABC News reported here.
