When is racism not racist?

Michael Frederick Jr., 24, was arrested for harassing a black family in his suburban Detroit neighborhood. He shot at their house, threw a rock through a window, slashed their tires, and scrawled on their their pickup truck. Read story here.

In court on Friday, October 2, 2020, Frederick told the judge, “I’m extremely regretful of what I did. I can say it’s not like me. I acted way out of character. This wasn’t about the color of anyone’s skin.”

Could’ve fooled me. And, I imagine, just about everyone else. Because if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck …

    Only the Shadow knos what lurks in the hearts of men.

    Now the rock throwing, spray painting, shots those are all crimes no matter the motivation. No matter the thinking behind the crimes they come with penalties. The question for the judge is whether he should add more time. While repugnant racism is thought. We ought not to criminalize thought.

    Baloney. A person’s actions manifest what’s in their heart and thoughts. Nobody has to guess in this case.
