Being a Jew does not make you a good person. America has seen its cast of despicable Jews from the role of Judah Benjamin in the Confederacy to the scandals of Bernie Madoff to the illegal use of immigrants in a kosher meat plant. Now we have the Adelsons.
Judah Benjamin was the second Jew to be elected as a US Senator. Benjamin served as Attorney General, Secretary of War, and Secretary of State for the Confederacy. He was called the “brains of the Confederacy.”
A Facebook Friend was surprised when I posted a story about a bad Jew. He honestly thought Jews, like Christians, think that being Jewish meant being moral. I explained that we are, as Shakespeare taught, just a people .. if you cut us we bleed, if we do bad things we are bad people. We are still Jews.
Jewish law, the Halachah, does not make one a good person. One can be utterly observant of the 613 mitzvot and still be a bad person by human standards. Non-Jews may not know this but Hitler’s first defense minister was a Jew and several of the worst antisemites in Soviet Russia were Jews too. America too has seen its cast of Jews who are despicable from the role of Judah Benjamin in the Confederacy to the scandals of Bernie Madoff to the illegal use of immigrants by Aaron Rubashkin, nor his sons Sholom and Heshyin at the nation’s largest kosher meat plant.
Donald Trump commuted the 27-year prison sentence of Sholom Rubashkin, the former executive of what was once the United States’ largest kosher meatpacking operation. Rubashkin ran America’s largest kosher meat. Agriprocessors’ facilities were raided in 2008 under accusations of immigration violations and worker exploitation Rubashkin was convicted of 86 counts of federal bank fraud related to loans to the company, said to be part of a complex accounting scheme to pay workers off the books.
Now we have the Adelsons. Good Jews but not necessarily good people.
Sheldon owns a lot of casinos. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson fund a lot of pro Israel activities including the “birthright” program that funds visits for your Jews to Israel. They also use the money to support far-right Republicans. And, yep, they are a major source of money behind Donald J. Trump.
Miriam’s fervor for the Donald goes beyond the mere comradery of two wealthy folks from the casino business. She may even see the Donald as the Messiah or at least as a prophet.

Adelson proposed prophethood for Trump in an article she wrote for the Trumpie newspaper. Israel Hayom was created by the Adelson’s as Israel’s version of Fox News/ Miriam say that Trump is like a Prophet .. demeaned and unappreciated in his day. She goes on “Scholars of the Bible will no doubt note the heroes, sages, and prophets of antiquity who were similarly spurned by the very people they came to raise up.” She went on to ask, “Would it be too much to pray for a day when the Bible gets a ‘Book of Trump,’ much like it has a ‘Book of Esther.’ Odd example … comparing the sex-obsessed Trump to Queen Esther?
Last year, Trump honored the Israeli-born Adelson with a Presidential Medal of Freedom, noting her career in medicine and philanthropy.
