James Fields Jr. will claim “he thought he was acting in self-defense” when he drove his car into a crowd, killing Heather Heyer and injuring 28 others, according to his defense attorney. Fields is charged with murder, hate crimes, hit and run, and other felonies. Jury selection has begun in the case. The incident occurred during a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August 2017 to protest removal of a Confederate statue. Fields was a neo-Nazi demonstrator and Heyer was in a crowd of peaceful counter-demonstrators. Read story here.
