How Unions Destroyed Public Education

The WAPOST has an excellent OPED saying that we are training far too many elementary school teachers.  The article also argues that the real need is for teachers with expertise in specific content area, Untitled-1Huskies husky diploma UWfrom English to Special Ed and STEM.  

The article places the blame on teachers unions that resist pay differentials or use of teachers with specialized expertise who want to work part time.  This may be very relevant to the SEIU Union activists trying to organize the UW faculty.
