Trump’s top associates each guilty of 8 counts
A Virginia jury has found Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign manager, guilty on 8 counts of tax fraud, bank fraud, and hiding a foreign bank account; the jury deadlocked on 10 other counts, and acquitted on 0 counts. The judge declared a mistrial on those counts, and whether Manafort will be retried on them is up to the prosecutor. In any event, Manafort faces another criminal trial set to begin next month.
In a Manhattan courtroom, Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal attorney, pleaded guilty to 8 counts of tax evasion, making false statements to a financial institution, causing an unlawful corporation contribution, and making an excessive campaign contribution at the request of a candidate. He admitted that “in coordination [with] and at the direction of a candidate for federal office,” who was not named, “he kept information that would have been harmful to the candidate and the campaign from becoming public,” according to CNN.
Whatever else happens, it’s now clear that Trump was surrounded by criminals when he ran for president.
