“Seattle Nostalgia” is usually a symptom of about five people who claim to represent The People and protest developing new housing or replacing a rickety bar no one uses.
Sadly, we rarely see such affection for such things as Lake Union, the waterfront, Pioneer Square, the Northwest artists and sculptors ignored by SAM, ……………….
And then there is Seattle’s version of whiteness. Ethnic groups flee Seattle. The issue is not skin color, it is culture.
First it was the Suquamish, they left and no one cared.
The the Gold Rush crowd, they too left and no one cared.
Then the Jews, they left and no one cared.
Greeks, Italians, Norwegians, and now the African Americans ….and no one cares!
So we have urban archaeology here …. statues in forlorn places serve as pigeon roosts, great synagogues get real estated, the Public Health hospital becomes a shelter of miscellaneous state agencies, Ballard goes yuppie, ohso industrial Lake Union goes high rise, the waterfront gets Disney deco. Langston Hughes s and Mount Zion Baptist Church … who knows? … and no one cares!
And then there are the statues we do not have to honor our past heroes …. aside form Leif Erickson, Chief Seattle, and Jimi Hendrix … who might those heroes be????
Buy em a beer from the Pike Brewing company.
Appears to diversity in beers in Seattle, maybe a bursting of Pabst Blue Ribbon will bring back the Suquamish, Gold Rushers, Jews, Greeks, Italians, ect or clear out the city for the Zombie crowd.
