The GOP’s 66-34 supermajority in Virginia’s lower legislature has evaporated in last month’s elections.
With two recounts still to go, Democrats have won a 50th seat in Virginia’s 100-seat lower legislature, after a recount handed them a 16th win by a single vote. The GOP candidate led by 10 votes before the recount.
If Republicans win the two remaining recounts, a power-sharing arrangement is likely, with committees run by a co-chair from each party.
Republicans still hold a 1 seat advantage, 21-19, in the state senate, where there were no elections this year.
